Almost 2008 OU approaching and NO COACH!

Really there's probably more important things to worry about than your favorite College Football Team... Anyhow... we still have no coach...

It's Official - I've lost the playlist for the 2007 CD - I know you're devastated. Get Over it. Drink a Beer.

here's one...
I'm drinking one now.. Straight from my Holiday pack of beers from Krogers. Yummy. I grabbed this image from a neat site....
RateBeer.Com Seems you can go there and get beer ratings... Something to do if you're bored...
This one scored a 2.8 out of 5.
And after swigging it... I see why....
I just don't like this type of stuff... That's ok.. I got a few more to go.. Maybe it'll grow on me.
So what else???
Basically been out of town running here and there...
Wed eve - To Buckville to visit Susan's parents... then Thursday to visit my family in Grafton, then home.
Skully managed her bladder well!
Today got up and ran for about 15 minutes at Susans, then came home and did some spinups on the trainer.
Other than that busy busy busy.
Well I won't bore anyone with senseless dribble.

12.24.2007

The CD part II - not today....

well somehow I deleted that playlist.... the iPhone is in the car......

I'll continue my great commentary at a later date...

However I'd like to comment on the complete ineptitude of WVU to hire a coach..

Eddie Pastilong needs fired... Mike Parsons Needs Fired.. Mike Garrison is in over his head... AND GOVERNOR JOE (I need my face in the press) Manchin needs to stay out of the search..

According to the PITT Post Gazzette - we renigged on the deal to get Jimbo Fisher!!!!! Fire them all...

What the hell does a governor have to do with searching for a college football coach.

Should he not focus on making us 48th in something instead of 49th????

merry christmas!!!!!!!

Merry Christmas.... Still No Coach!!!! pt 1

Oh crap.. we still have no coach.. But that's a story for another day...

This morning, had a great brunch with Susan's parents.... The Queen B even dropped by.... breakfast casserole, macadamia nut french toast, pomegranate mimosa's, pumpkin pancakes... Delicious...
I'm stuffed and am having to go eat Mexican later this eve.....
Mexican's good though.
But anyway, many of you (or the few the proud and the bored) may have gotten your Christmas cards and wondering what that crappy CD is... Well I'm here to tell ya...
2007 The Mellow Years....
I Give it that name as I'm gettin' old... my tastes in music either default to 1980 or I pick up something new and just don't like it... But this is a taste of what I picked up this year....
The CD starts of with these men who've been residing in the "Where Are They Now File" the scorps... This is "HOUR I" off of "Humanity Hour I". This CD is actually pretty good... I wouldn't be too scared to pick it up if you like the scorps... It's not Cheesy other than their pictures of 50year old men trying to look cool. Reminds me when I take off my shirt.....

The Next song is DEATHSTAR by Sevendust... This song is one of the few that will satisfy the Hard and Heavy crowd... Comes off the album Alpha, released back in the spring I think. It's good, but typical Sevendust, as the shit just runs together. (Remember I'm an old codger reviewing new music).

Velvet Revolver and "GET OUT THE DOOR" - brings you to the days of when you picked up that ugly chick and wanted her out of the room before your roommate buddies woke up. This as a good rocker - sounds like you should enjoy this band as it looks like Scott Wieland is facing about a year in jail after his last encounter.

FAR CRY - RUSH - is there a drummer out there that doesn't like Neil Peart (spelling) This is the best Rush Album I've listened to in years.... If your a Rush fan and have given up on them pick this disc up - It rocks. "Snakes & Arrows".

TESLA - "I've Got A Feeling" - Disc: "Reel to Real" - pretty good from another band from yesteryear. Cover's disc seems to be what everyone want's to put out these days. I'm not even going to bother looking up the cover for it.
That's followed by Hillary Clinton's wet dream - Terrible Ted Nugent - the man the myth the legend - and by all accounts he'll be glad to tell you how great he is. I don't know what to say about this disc... it mostly sucks.. songs like "Funk U", "Spirit of the Buffalo", "Bridge over troubled Daughters"..... "Love Grenade" is by far the best song, the album is way better than craveman, but it won't be album of the year by any means. If you're a Ted fan, check it out. it's fun, nothing more.

Ok well on that note I have to run..... I'm late for dinner.... I'll finish this tomorrow or the next day...
so long....
PITT Sucks, but Rich Rod swallows...

12.16.2007

RICH ROD IS A DICK

What more can you say??

How about a MOTHER FUCKING DICK!!!!

I can't say it enough

Pitt Sucks but Rich Rod Swallows

LOL.

12.11.2007

American Metalhead

Sorry for the delay folks as I’ve been under a lot of stress since loosing to PITT and the subsequent fallout from Rich the Dick.......but because no one still realizes I’m writing this, who cares right???? So let’s get to it…

Sebastian Bach – the name alone screams Hair Metal… Dickhead, you name it. But seems the only thing good one could say about him is that he has some pipes and can scream his ass off. Well he’s finally came out with an album “Angel Down”. First album I guess in like 10years. He’s been touring with Guns N Roses, hell he even got Axl to sing or contribute to three songs on this album – Sebastian seems to be telling everyone that will listen that very fact also.

Anyhow, Pornstar gave me this CD during the Pitt / WVU fiasco, and I’m glad he did, some good Rockin’ going on, on this disc!

Here’s my unmusical review -

Angel Down – kicking song… very modernized version of something off Slave To The Grind… Slow intro.. almost a “Long Intro Violation”.
You Don’t Understand – not as hard as Angel Down or fast, but not bad either. I’d call it filler.
Back In The Saddle Again – “Ridin’ in to town, alone by the light of the moon” – once you hear that you know that voice. It will make you want Chinese Democracy to come out now. Sent chills up my spine. Overall a very good cover, “like a loaded gun”
(Love Is) A Bitchslap – A good song to play on a Friday eve leavin’ work and headin’ to Happy Hour…. It will get you going… Axl is featured on this song also, but in my opinion he’s buried and if I didn’t know he was on here I could barely tell.. great song… I think it’s the first single.
Stuck Inside – This has a more harder edge intro, then slows down, and the chorus is unimanginable, very simple “Stuck Inside, Stuck Inside”… Axl contributes again, not singing, just gives a very short verse about midway through the song. More filler than anything.
American Metalhead – If you grew up on Metal, and are still a true believer, then hell you have to love the title of this at least. – Kicks off with a nice riff, and the Sebastian kicks in screaming… pretty cool tune, I’d recommend it.
Negative Light – another harder edge song… similar to the Skids Subhuman Race lp. I like it… you should to, if not well what can I say.
Live and Die – About now you going to start to see a reoccurring theme in this LP. Hard riffs, and Anthem type songs…This one starts off much like the last two songs, if not the last five, however the chorus is more harmonized I guess you could say… Pretty good song, but things are starting to run together.
By Your Side – Oh those 80’s bands where always known for their ballads, well here’s the first on this LP. I can’t help but think I Remember You. This song isn’t bad, but well I think it could have came earlier on the LP “Bad Mix Violation”. I’m just not buyin this one.
Our Love Is A Lie – Isn’t everyone’s???? Hard faster tempo, this is a good song… grooves you into it.
Take You Down With Me – starting off similar to the last one, then Mr. Bach comes in screamin’ with in my opinion too high of a pitch. But it seems to work as the song progresses… Somewhere between filler and not filler.
Stabbin’ Daggers – Pretty good song, because it blends so well with the rest of the LP, just doesn’t stand out. Thus it’s a waist of a perfectly good title. I expected more from such a cool title.
You Bring Me Down – That’s what OJ says to all the women. Honest Effort, but falls flat.
Falling Into You – the second and last Ballad – the one he talks about a lot. I wouldn’t because it’s nothing special. Well put together song, just Sebastian isn’t selling it – least to me anyway.

Overall a pretty good LP, especially from some 80’s Has Been that everyone has written off. He’s made a pretty good album, and shoved a big middle finger to everyone that thought it would suck. I don’t think he will be selling out Madison Square Garden after this release, but it’s a good album and hopefully will get some airplay. Because my American Metalhead wants more albums like this.

So there it is for ya….

BTW....

PITT still sucks.... But Rich Rod Swallows....

Yesterday, Today, Tommorrow

Well not much is new...

Yesterday...

Did a jog for about 20 minutes, you probably felt the earth shake... Did good watching the diet, had a Christmas Play to attend, then ate some mexican. Drank some Bushmills or was it something else??? Don't remember. And organized some photographs, while the misses decorated trees.

Today.....

Got up snow.... The second snow we've had this winter... but not this year. Pretty good accumulation, was planning on Jogging at the City Home. But didn't... So plan to do a ride on the trainer for a little bit courtesy of Spinervals

Tommorrow....

hmmmm well I hope to get up and ride in the morning also... that may not materialize, but it may.

I think also we'll have an album review..... The first....

12.03.2007

CHOKE!!!!!

Oh man..... what else can you say????

We Blew IT!!!!! Screwed the Pooch......

WVU 9 PITT 13....

Pat misses two FG's, White goes out.... Rod and in my honest opinion - unimaginative play calling. The Offensive Line just wasn't getting it done. So instead of the BCS Championship game.. we are off to the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona to take on the Sooners of Oklahoma.

That in and of itself caught some people off guard as we felt we would be heading to Miami to take on VTech in the Orange Bowl. It's all good... dropping the ball is nothing new for this team.

First I want to point out a blog by John Radcliff...... Click his name and you'll get the link... He does a song after each week in college football... This is good...

Well other than LOOSING TO PITT.... I managed a good jog on Saturday.... Sunday lounged around... went to the mall... and moped around about LOOSING TO PITT.

Today back to work... came home rode on the trainer for a bit.

I should thank Pornstar for the beer Saturday Night, Rebecca making the Galactic Aliens that put my girlfriend out. And for making the awesome hamburgers. It was good.....

But unfortunately we lost to PITT....

So everyone of you WVU Haters ...... keep sending the "Heimlich Maneuver" Jokes...

as yes we ChOKED.

11.30.2007

My Couch Is Going To Burn

Ok... so it's about 9:30PM on Friday the 30th. Got Paid Today...

Friends coming in from Out Of Town.... PornStar AKA Derek "Fucking" Chapman. We'll be watching the WVU Mountaineers trash the Pitt Panthers tommorrow and subsequently play for the BCS National Title..

But that's not what you want to hear is it...

Ok.. Last night did a short jog around Susan's neighborhood...then we had fried wild West Virginia grown trout for dinner.

Then today after eating Mexican... came home and did some time on the trainer. 30 to 45 minutes.

After That, back to inventoryin' my CD's.

That's right folks, I have almost 1000 CD's of the greatest 80's Hair Bands you do not want to listen to.... In two CD changers, and sometimes finding what one to listen to is a nightmare. So I've decided to use ITunes to inventory them.

Right now I'm listening to Judas Priest and Demolition with Blaze Baily. yeah baby...

I won't bore you with this much

but stay tuned for more.

11.29.2007

Happy Holidays (re-intro version)

Welcome Back My Friends to the show that Never Ends.....

Ok. that was gay....

To get you up to date since my last post....

WVU is on the verge of going to the BCS National Championship Game... Hell has frozen over, and we've sold our souls.

I've basically quit riding since I last wrote... Off and on yes.. didn't manage to do any races....

Why??? Marital Stife - Team Fell Apart, the list goes on and on.... Time commitments... you name it.

So what happened.. Pretty much back where I started.... Beer Drinking Couch Potato From Hell......

Yeah Baby!!!!!!

So at 248lbs.. The BetterHalf is on her Low Carb Diet.... She's doing good.... So Far...

So Today I VOW To GET BACK IN SHAPE.....

Probably never in competition shape, but whose to say I shouldn't be able to ride some hard rides????

We'll See

Stay Tuned.....

Another Nice Day

04.24.07

As you can see my posts are typically a day behind...

Nevertheless.... Afterwork yesterday.. stuck on the interstate for about 30 to 40 minutes. Got home about 5:30.

Did an easy spin up Howells Mill through Big 7 Mile (that was about 5 miles on a downhill grade - got to love that) then up and over Skyhigh and home.. About 1 hour of easy road riding, but two little hills thrown in.

Then cleaned the barn up some, smashed some mole holes.

And my better half picked me ups some Applebees for dinner.

Soothing Cool Amber Liquid

Well I've been like butter last week. "On a Roll". Just to coin a phrase (and a bad one at that).
Well thought about racing this weekend but after it was all said and done, it should come as no surprise that I didn't. Let's see $100 in Gas, $30 bucks in fuel, food, etc.. it adds up fast when you consider all the misc costs associated. Not to mention the costs of not doing all the shit you need to do around the house.
So alas.. I wasn't able to hook up with A'hole or Diesel over the weekend.. this is probably due more to me than anything else.. just that well. Didn't get a chance to get ahold of either. But going into the weekend it appeared that my schedule was going to be different.
So thus after a soccer game and trip to Elkview on Saturday morning, I spent the afternoon at Kanawha State Forest. Managed about 17 miles and a couple of hill climbs, and good singletrack. The weather was awsome.. 80 degrees plus.
After the ride.. little nap and some pilsners then the betterhalf and I had dinner at Blossum's in Charleston.. If you want to pay a penny but eat some decent food.. you should check it out.
Sunday... it was even more fun. 3 hours of mowing the grass.... spraying round up, cleaning gutters...
But the soothing cool amber liquid eases it all away.

4.19.2007

Drizzly Run

Sick Kids... Home Early..

Well did manage to piddle around outside.. clean yesterdaze ride off the bike. Should lube. Always good to use lube before you rub.

Ran the vacume. Ate an Icecream sandwich, fed the little one some Tylenol, let the dog out.

Took a short little jog 10 to 15 min down the road and back.

Ate some peanut Butter and Jelly and nacho's and watched last week's episode of the Soprano's.

All in a Day's non work.

OH and I should mention it was rather drizzly out.

After work at the KSF

04.18.07 Kanwha State Forest
Another Nice Day... Had to pick up the girls at 7:45, thus decided to take a spin out at the KSF after work.
Awsome Day..
Basically parked at the pool did the Davis Creek Trail - lower portion, then up Middle Ridge fire road, and did the Middle Ridge trail, afterwards.. thought about going down Black Bear, but decided to just cruise out the fire road, and then down through the Camping Area, and back to the pool via the upper section of the Davis Creek trail.
14miles total, 1hr 45.
Afterwards, picked the girls up and home for some pilsners and a Red Baron Pizza

3 Weeks and Counting

Yes, it's been about 3 weeks since my last post.

In that time, not really much has happened. But here's a short rundown, and hope to have some more timely posts coming soon...

First, I did manage to reach 225lbs by March... So that's about 25lbs of fat off my frame since January. Now unfortunately since that lofty goal, I haven't really lost much. I've been too busy relishing in that success that I may have gained a pound or two. Sure enough, the recreational beverages have picked up. YUMMY.

However I did step on the scale today, and I'm still hovering around the 224 to 225 range. 215lbs by June is the next goal. To attain that goal, I started keeping track of everything this week. So far so good, although, did pig out on some Ruffles chips and Kraft French Onion dip there one night. But what's wrong with a binge or two here and there????

So let's go back a ways... My last post was back around March 20th or so.. I've posted some pics on Flicker from the St. Patrick's Day Party.

03.19.07

That week I managed to ride about 62 miles, had to mow grass for the first time - this takes me about 3 hours. So I included it in my time and logged it as walking. Everybit counts. Also managed to get some jogging in.

03.26.07

This next week was my first week of Build I think. Build I. Planned for 11 hours and actually got that in. Basically from "the Plan"... I have to work out harder. More hill climbs and sustained efforts in Zones 3 to 5. It's lovely and it sucks. Nevertheless the summary is:

122 miles on the bike, 10 miles MTB, and 6 miles of jogging. Not to mention some weight workouts. All good.

04.02.07

Easter Week... oh what a long week this was. My better half was fed up with all the riding. Had class in morgantown.. was able to get a 2+ hour MTB ride in at Cooper's Rock. Then did some easy Rail Trail riding. Agreed to reduce the plan some. So well that will allow more time with the better half and hers.

Totals: 60 miles riding, 10 on the MTB, but again I included my 3 hours of mowing (for the second time) in this.

04.09.07

This week I had thoughts of racing the Mountwood Race on Sunday the 14th. But lucky for me a NorEaster moved in and my fairweather racing ability prevented me from even thinking about attending that. However Diesel and A'hole did do the Dragon's Back race in Virginia... Check those out. Most of the rides were on the road or trainer

Summary: 105 miles of riding. No runs.. just looking at the rain.

So no fancy pics this post.. No nothing.... No news on the 24 hours....it's getting close.

Check back

3.22.2007

IM STILL ALIVE

Sorry fair weather readers...

I've been Lazy!!!

But coming soon a recap.

I know you missed me

3.13.2007

Where Have I been???

Oh like your really care!!

Just hidin' out and layin low. To be honest, my lack of prose has been offset with a somewhat increased busy schedule, coupled with some serious breaks in the weather, and then to smooth over the time spent on the bike with my BEAUTIFUL BETTER HALF. (yes I'm told to be mushy)

But paybacks are hell..

Anyhow... I think it's been about two weeks since I posted. I'm in the Base III period of my plan now. Well now I'm practically over it. The big difference here - if you even care - is a little more duration and some higher intensity workouts - Z4 for me. To make it sound not so spiffy, add two Zone 4 interval workouts each week.

To be honest, this is good and I can see the point, however, when the weather breaks and it's 70 degrees out, one rides for two hours, then the next day these interval rides are hard for me. But I'm also a puss.

I didn't print out to review what I did two weeks ago, so I'll only bore you with what I did last week, and what's going on this week.

03.05.07

Monday - knowing I had a training class in Clarksburg on Tuesday, I decided to ride out at Kanawha State Forest, here in Charleston after work. Then go to Grafton to visit my old man. So after work that's where I went, my normal thing is to ride up Middle Ridge fire road and start out that way... well there must have been some gas well issue as that route was closed. So up the fireroad which was fresh bulldozed mud. I think it took me 18 hours to get to the top. However the Edge worked fine.

03.06.07

Tuesday after my class I stopped in Roanoke West By God to check out Stonewall Jackson State Park. Well I found one nice trail - Heavnor's Orchard Trail. This trail was about 3.5 miles long mostly all single track, and very scenic. If it wasn't so cold out, I would have probably turned back around and rode it back the way I came. But because I'm a _____ss I didn't. My feet were cold and headed to the car. But most of the pics here are from that ride.

03.07.07 - NOTHING Didn't do crap.. however it wasn't supposed to be a day off, tried working out in the evening but I guess I was too tired, so decided to catch up on some 24, and Heroes that were DVR'd.

Thursday was nothing special...

03.09.07 Friday - the weather was awesome, took off work a few hours and managed a nice little road ride for just over 2 hours. Then dinner with some of the betterhalf's friends.

03.10.07 Saturday - another two plus hour day in the sun... this time it was an intentional flat ride as on Sunday I want to do some intervals. After this ride, it was dinner at Red Lobster with the betterhalf's parents, and a baby shower or birthday or something with some other relatives. Noteworthy stuff really, if you want to hear about it you can pay me.

Sunday - well I guess I was too tired for the intervals because I stunk up the joint on that workout. So managed to ride some hills, then proceeded to drink more beer and some errands around the house.

So to conclude that week...

227lbs, about 120miles on the bikes.

New Week

Now just to catch up, I'll make this short story that much longer.....

Monday, rode after work on an empty stomach - well I basically bonked..... cut the ride short and came home and ate some Reese Cup Easter Eggs, and a salad.

Tuesday - well that's today, I'll tell you later.

3.04.2007

Sunday Morn

It's like 7:30AM Sunday morn, the snow is coming down? Who knew it was supposed to snow? Guess those that paid attention to the weather! Not me.

It's also my Girlfriends - Susan -Birthday. I have done nothing. She says don't worry about it. BS. LOL That's an invitation to disaster. I'm thinkin' breakfast maybe - but that requires me to go to the store. We'll see.. needless to say I'll probably hear about this day in the future.

As for the riding...

Well the weight's hovering around 228 to 230.... Knowing that the goal by the end of March was 225, I think that I skirted the diet some this past week. Ryan's Buffet, and a conference didn't help or they encouraged.

This week I managed 113 miles riding about 3 jogging. About 1/2 and 1/2 between trainer and outside. On the trainer it was mostly intervals. The Z4 intervals. The first day was tough on my fat behind. The second time seemed ok. Then I also did some hill climb intervals outside on Friday. These actually kicked my ass so much I bonked on an easy ride on Saturday. You'll have that.

Because I'm close to my goal I'm creating a Shadow goal of 220 by the end of march. By this I mean, It's a success of 225, but the intent now is 220.

Stay tuned.

(oh yeah, sorry know wonderful pics...or fancy google maps, hell you probably didn't want those anyhow. Maybe this week I'll have my head in a noose if I don't have a B'day gift for Susan to show.)

2.28.2007

Base Touching

Wednesday February 22nd

Just touching base as I haven't posted in a bit.

Weather's broken a bit, it's been in the 50's most of the week so far. Motivated to get out more. Taking the day off today. (naturally it's supposed to be the nicest day of the week)

The Z4 intervals are a pain. Or I'm a puss... probably the latter... but more tomorrow.

As I said... nothing worth mentioning.

2.25.2007

Not Ready To Make Nice

Sorry..

I'm listning to the Dixie Chicks... If you know me - or I should say - if you've known me from my glory days.... then this isn't me. So it is a testament to the human spirit that I'm telling you this.

However the subject song is good. If you don't think so then you yourself are an idiot. PERIOD.

Ok so Summarize.

I had planned 6:22 of workout time... I actually did 6:17.. Yeah we're splitting C hairs.

I did about 55 mi of riding 10 off road, 20 on the road. So yeah it was very little trainer rides this week. That's about to change again. As I have some seminars to go to this week. So I'll make up the lost time on the trainer.

OH BY THE FUCKIN" WAY>>> I LOVE SNUGGLING SUSAN

Ok.. so.. where was i..

O yeah;..

well by the pic above you can see that more time has been spent in z3 the past 4 weeks. As opposed to jan.

(for you idiots, it's the red portion of the graph)

The next 4 weeks try to emphasize more z4. I have to say, 6 minutes on the trainer in z4, doing intervals is difficult.

Will I succeed.. doubt it. but we'll see.

The problem arises because that now, I'm sick of riding on the trainer, the weather is breaking every now and then. Riding outside is better. etc etc

So why would anyone want to be busting their ass on a trainer? I have no answer other than that I can better control the workout on a trainer. For example in the real world in WV, if you were to do an all out interval, chances are that you will do part of it on the down hill side of a hill. IE it's not helping you.

Anyhow..

For week 4 6:17 65 Mi riding (10+/- off road). I broke the 229 barrier.

Same time Same Channel

2.24.2007

On Saturday.....

BTW... that's a great song by the band called "The Clarks".

Well today.. after a cleaning binge that lasted to 2:45AM in the morning, I managed to run in the morning. Went to the WVU Cabell County Extension Campus and did 3 slow trots around the walking course. Took the mutt.

Came home worked on some photographs. Yeah, I've been getting into photography over the past year or so and have accumulated a shit load of photos. None any good mind you, but a shit load none the less. So I need to organize them. Purchased this DAM Book not long ago... it's great for giving ideas on how to store digital images.

Then took a nap.

Then hooked the edge up to the Trek 9.8 and went for my MTB ride. Did an old trail that I hadn't been on in a few years. We called it McKraken's trail, as the old High School teacher had/has property on it. Most of it was in far better shape than it used to be. Never hear of any of the pals riding it, but it was cleared 'cept for the occasional tree. The only problem that came happened near an uphill about 1/2 way through. It was always no Trespassing, but this time this uphill looked freshly bulldozed and logged, and would have been a mess. Decided to go up a different way that I don't really have a name for. But it takes me out near one of the Scout Trails - Adahi maybe?? Then from there I had had enough so cut to the left and went home.

I've attached the links and the pic is the google earth export.

So what else is new??

The sea food lasagna was awesome. Can't wait to have it again.

I'm done working out for the week. next week it's base 3 week one I think. I'm fortunate enough to get into some Zone 4 intervals.

Lovely.

I'll do a more thorough summary post later.

later.

IPOD Friendly Gloves

Don't you just hate it when you can't find your gloves??? Or anything you normally have for something.

Well I do.

Well this afternoon was a disaster....

Starts out going to Wendy's for lunch.. when my credit/debit card was declined. That will piss you off! Then it pisses you off more, when you use a CREDIT CARD, for a baked potato and small chili. ($2.34).

After lunch, this concerned individual goes across the way to the ATM to check the Balance... INVALID USER / CARD CONFISCATED.

What the hell??? Fortunately, this was my bank and inside I went. Well, the card was not working because of TJ MAX and some other related vendors who had been violated around the past holidays. My security was compromised. My idiocy has led to this problem.

Yes, a few days ago I received a new Debit Card in the mail. What did I do with this newly recieved card??
I threw it away.
The old one was working fine, and stuff. Didn't realize it was an entirely new account number. Nevertheless, this card is no good and a new new card is on the way.

Well this took about an hour to fix... because I had already told my supervisor that I may have to take off the afternoon to contend with the dreaded horrible "Throw-Up Virus", I went ahead and did so, but knowing full well that I didn't have to contend with this dreadful disease as that had already been taken care of.

So...

To the OREK place I went. $helled out $ome dough. Now I have a $weeper.

Then home to do a ride. Love the little Edge 305.

This ride went around Big 7 Mile and back home over Sky High. Very freakin' windy ride. hell thought I was going backwards at times.

Gloves, I hate not having the gloves you're used to. I misplaced my normal so broke out a previously retired pair. I should market the design. For those of you that use an IPOD, well these work great. The fingers are meticulously worn to where bare skin can connect with the wheel of the IPOD. If you own an IPOD you surely know how hard it can sometimes be to change tunes when the fingers are covered. Well these gloves can take that on.

Oh yeah shadow pic

Home to play with the Orek. Drink a beer. Then off to Susan's for what she has self proclaimed "THE BEST SEA FOOD LASAGNA".

I'll let you know how that is.

Edge

Edge

I'm over it... Let's see where to start.

Ok..Yesterday 02.21.07 started out pretty good. Got up and jogged for 20 min in Teays Valley, after staying in my city abode.

Interestingly as I think I have the early morning hours to myself.. I just bumble along the sidewalks, without a care in the world. Those of you that have Polar HRM's, may have the feature that if you raise the monitor up to your chest strap, the light will come on. Well I do this frequently so that I know when to turn around sometimes - 10 min out + 10 min back = 20 min. You get the drift.

As I bumble along no care in the world.. holy shit I run into a fellow early morning jogger. Scared the shit out of me. That was my interesting thing for the day... collision.

That eve, I received in the mail my new HRM monitor - why did I purchase a new one? Taxes, extra monies burning holes in my shallow pockets. Obviously if I needed it I wouldn't have purchased it. However, I received my new Garmin Edge.

This thing is awesome. Uses GPS, to track your position, speed. Has a new sensor than my old GPS so it actually receives signals very good.. heck it worked in my house. Garmin has some sort of partnership with MotionBased.Com. Whereby you can upload your data to that site for free - least for most features.

MotionBased has all sorts of cool features... stores your route to Google Earth automatically. Profiles, wealth of info. The Edge 305 was expensive, but for gadget geeks you may like. If you get a chance to try it out.

For busting my cherry, did a night ride around Lower Creek. Fairly warm out for February - 40's. It was an overall nice ride. (if you noticed the last link I think your able to go and check out some of the workout specifics, if not, oh well you wasted your time, but not as much time as I in figuring that out)

The Garmin worked great.

02.22.07

This morning checked the Garmin out on another little trot around Teays Valley. This time it was basically around some of the local subdivisions - again for about 20 min.

No collisions.

Test

R & R

So after yesterday's day off.. time to get back in the swing of things. So I started off today after work dropping Susan and the youngun's off.

Interlude... and this has nothing to do with cycling.... Leaving work rumor was that there was an accident on the interstate. At the Greenbrier Street interchange, there was traffic backed up. So being of sound mind and intelligence I proceed to go the opposite direction and then back track along WV 61. Well I needed gas also. To make long boring story short, this was probably an unnecessary step. Oh well I shared it with you.

Ok back to the rest of the boring stuff.

Came home jumped on the trainer, for the test. As per "the plan", this is supposed to be a Tempo Time Trial. Why is my fat ass doing this??? You find out let me know, but hey there's something to be gained from improvement right?

Well the test is simple, warm up ride 3 miles at a certain calculated Heart Rate. Mine happens to be low Z4 range (for you that want to simply know 160 to 161). Record your time.

Back on Jan 24th I did this..

Jan 24th: 3miles 7:15.5 161avg
Today: 3 miles 6:55.5 161avg

Today pushed a harder gear than before. So that was probably the reason.

Also wanted to do some weights... but Turbo Tax is telling me that I need to do something else or the great State of WV will not accept my tax return. So I shunned the weights to fix this self imposed mess.

Till next time

E18

Epic - for me
Saturday, yesterday, 02.17.07 was another lesson in Futility for me. Really it wasn't that bad.. But it was the first hard ride of the year for me.
yeah yeah, intervals, spinervals, hills, etc only do so much. They don't really amount to jack once one is out on the trail, in conditions meant to be spent by the warm fire and hot drink. Nevertheless it was fun, so kudo's to those that made me get out there and do it.
Group ride, with Diesel, Ahole, JT, and some dude Wes. I've only met JT a couple times, and Wes today. Doesn't really matter because I rode so far back I didn't see any of them. Diesel planned the ride along the Kanawha Trace. Portions of it, anyhow... Mile post 8 or so, Big Cabell Creek through Cananan Lands, Gobbler Knob, Black Jack, that's as far as I've ever been so any other notable areas, I have yet to bust a cherry on. But end up in Frazier's Bottom where Diesel dropped his vehicle off the eve before.
I didn't do the Big Cabell Creek portion, the group picked me up at my house and I did the Cananan Lands - portion. The climb to Cananan Lands was a pain. I really thought I'd do better, but to be honest once to the top I felt I recovered well so maybe somethings going right. Ahole - was riding a Single Speed - modified to have two speeds. Climbing this hill I could only think of what a ReRe one would be to inflict such torture on oneself. But he still beat me to the top.
Down the Goat Trail, Christmas Tree Farm section. I hadn't been on this in so long. The trees must have been 5 feet tall last I saw them, they're now 8 to 10 or more. The frozen ground and over inflated tires on the 9.8 made me realize just how bad I'm in need of a new front suspension fork.
Then it was up a real torturous climb. Lft Fork of Cooper Creek Road. this steep Dirt Road Climb was my first introduction today of the ice covered dirt road. Let's make sure that one realizes, snow, ice whatever, I was not climbing this hill today if the conditions were optimal. However one had to choose their lines well, some of this simply was luck. But it was easy to find the ice spots for me as I spinned out easily on several occasions. Walking mostly to the top. To me this will be a Hour's Category Climb (spelling on that?)
To the top and on to what I think the sign said Jenkin's Branch portion of the KT. This part I've always disliked, but it's a much better ride in the direction we're taking today, as it's mostly downhill. Again Years since I rode this, so I'm here to remind myself how much I dislike this section.
Crossing the frozen over creek for what seemed a hundred times, one realizes how much they weigh. By this I mean, you learn to choose your steps carefully. But rest assured I plunged through the ice on more than one occasion, and my sensitive toes were only saved by the goretex socks, and the blood kept flowing because of the endless amounts of times I was walking.
This trail is scenic, and eventually opens up into some fields and with the grey skies, snow coming down, and riders in front of me.... (yeah this was an area that I could see them that far in front of me) the view was scenic..pop out the camera and bzzzzt. Guess it froze up or something. The snow or what not may be too bright, but it just shut down. This was a common them throughout the rest of the day.
By the end of this section, I had had my fill of the Kanawha Trace for a few months. So I puss out and bail from the rest of the group. Wish them well and I plan to return home via Lft Fork of Barkers Ridge, and Hammer Hollow Road.
Up the hill to Barkers Ridge, I see what can only now be thought of as an omen, and once again, The Canon didn't work or I obviously would have showed you. But riding along a Golden Retriever had it's head buried in a recently hit deer, just having a field day with the carcase. Raising his head as I ride by, snout all red, red on the snow.. one can imagine a scene out of Cujo or something.
Hammer Hollow, is where things went wrong for me and after talking to Ahole over dinner later Saturday Eve, it sounds as if portions of they're ride were very similar.
Hammer Hollow is a Dirt Road that connects Barkers Ridge and I think it's MacComas Branch. I would descend from Barkers Ridge, ride out and end through a 30yard long Creek bed ride.
Well the decent I wrecked once, twice, and not learning my lesson back on and wreck again. This was not over once to the flat part as I must have wrecked 3 more times with one more harder than the others. Every time I turned a pedal I was on my back making snow angels it seemed. BTW, the pic is looking up the Hammer Hollow decent after wreck #2. I was able to coax that out of the camera.
Needless to say, one injured hand, limped home, getting ready to hop in the Hot Tub, not regretting my choice to bail. The phone rings, Diesel's wife says the police have called and threatening to tow his Vehicle. Well I didn't know where he parked it, but feeling they should be almost there, told her to just call back and tell them not to tow it.
Then with cold beer in one hand, I slip my fat ass into the Hot Tub, and hit the jets.
So this Epic Ride of 18 miles also was the same Error I kept getting on the Camera E18. And my choice of taking Hammer Hollow was an error... so my title is very fitting.
18 miles 3+ hours (slow going along hammer hollow)

2 Dayz

Well I've taken two days off since my last rides on Tuesday.

Tuesday, I spinned on the trainer getting about 40 min in Z3.

Wed: was Valentines Day.. I intended to get up early to ride prior to work, however the evening spent at Ruby Tuesday's beer did not allow me such a luxury. So basically Wed Eve... it was a love fest in at the Embassy Suite's in Charleston - the managers special of free drinks and snacks from 5:30 to 7:30 was great. Dinner at Gratzi's where we proceeded to have 2 Bottles of Chianti (spelling??) I think I consumed 75%. As once back to the room I was out like a light.

Thur: back to work, but tired.. once home decided to forgo the riding and catch up on my TV watching. So popped popcorn, shot diet to hell. Watched 24, The Sandlot, CSI, and portions of Grey's Anatomy. The glory of DVR.

Friday... well now back to the grind. Need to get some workouts in, clean a bike as I think I'm going to try Diesel's KT ride on SAT morning. I'll start from my house and hopefully end up in Frazier's Bottom - We'll see, and we'll let you know.

So with 2 Days off I think I'm little motivated to get back on the bike.

TWO A DAYZ

Ok...

The morning came early today... 4:30am. wHY. I have an I-D-10-T problem.

Decided to get early and get a spin in prior to work. Typically I feel better when I do so at work. Plus I wanted to get a couple of hours in today (+/-). So split it up a bit.. TWO A DAYZ

I do this some, helps break the monotony up some.

So this morning spinned for about 45 min to the beat of the Spinerval's Ride Strong tape with Team Clydesdale. I'd like to tell you this was exciting but it wasn't.

This eve, I hope to do a Tempo Ride, about 40 minutes in Z3 plus warming up and cooling down. May add a short jog just to get things moving.

Then I hope to watch last eve's 24 and House. Wonders of DVR

Also you may notice some new links to the side... via Google Reader

Well for starters it's now Monday, and starting a new week. Once again.. this is the big week. But before I get into that... let's recap the last week.

Of course it started off torn to shreds as I've mentioned, I think I wanted to do about 11+ hours, but between snow, work, woman, etc it ended up being about 9 hours.

But I do think I was able to have more productive workouts in most cases.. So we'll see.

Didn't manage to get "outside" much. I'm a puss when it comes to the cold. Other than a few jogs and the occasional ride outside my time was mostly spent on the trainer.

Spinning machine.

The weight I don't think I watched as much or I may have hit a little plateau. The hope was to hit the 229 mark, but I'm hovering right around 234 / 233 . I'll crack the 229 this week.

So for the totals of this snowy blizzardy week that I mostly saw from the basement window:

114 Miles on the Bike (98% of it I'm sure was on the trainer) 4 miles of running / jogging trotting, etc.

So what's in store this week? Well it's singles awareness day on Wednesday. So I guess I have to get on the ball to find something for Susan to brag to her friends about. Think maybe a bike ride in the freezing cold?

As I mentioned this is also the long week.. 12.5 hours is the goal. Plus I want to drop below 230.

Of course drink a few.

One recommendation.. check out the Taste Of Asia in Teay's Valley. Ate there twice over the weekend.

yummy

3+

That's right...

3+

Hours down today.. almost 3.5. Ok so I'm tryin' to make up for lost time. Originally today I wanted to do a ride with the B'fat dudes... However the puss nature of me didn't. In my personal opinion, it wasn't my puss nature, it was more the time of the event. I think the group started ridin' at 11...

Wouldn't have made it.

So about 8 I managed to do another thunderous trot up at Susan's for 30 min. Basically jogged around sleepy hollow road. It was pretty scenic (sorry no camera no pic) but the snow covered golf course and adjacent fields, cool breeze and the snot dripping from my nose made for a magical moment.

Once back to Susan's I was ready for my fluffy pancakes and bacon. BTW folks TURKEY BACON IS NOT BACON. anyone with a passion for bacon will know this. Another hint DO NOT COOK BACON in the Microwave. Much less turkey bacon.

Pancakes were delicious.

Hung some curtain rods, then home to lift some weights about 12PM. After the weights I did another spinervals tape for an hour, then did a small 10 mile ride outside. finished up about 4 and took some pictures..

Nothing more to report..... I've gotten up to about 7 hours now out of 11. Looking forward to the Mexican Cantina again this eve.

2.09.2007

One of those weeks....

I think it's one of them weeks that people talk about...

It's now 7:00PM on Friday... I no longer feel like doin' shit. I'm quickly lagging behind "the plan" for this week. Some will rejoice.

But I'm not

So as I sip this Michelob Light that my pal Rebbecca left here last Sunday. BTW... Happy Birthday Rebbecca. She has hit the big three O' if I'm not mistaken. (reminds me to get a B'day present tomorrow)

Anyhow...it's one of those weeks.. Nothing goes right. The best laid plans. Everyone talks about the days like this. I've had them, and normally this is where my discouragement starts.

So as I alluded to this is supposed to be 11+ hours of "the plan"... I've gotten about 4 in. Sorry yes I miscalculated the other day.

Anyhow, the snow has fucked with me and those around me. It's 7:20 I'm probably being cussed as I type.

Anyhow, let's turn this bad week into something positive.

I've done all of the BT workouts.... oh what is BT stands for "Break Through". Basically and again I'm no exercise physiologist, these are supposed to be workouts that really stress your body. More bang for you buck.

So yes I have increased the Interval sets, and extended the "prescribed" "Tempo ride" by 10 minutes.

Lemons and Lemonade

This just in....

First things first....

More to come later

Just to touch base to my fan base - or lack there-of, the week of "the plan" isn't going well. Several adjustments to this 11hr week and it's now Friday, and I've only gotten about 4 in. Long weekend ahead.

Snow can cause quite an inconvenience in things. It places undue burdens on all those that have to deal with it.

Needless to say, WV got blanketed with our first big snow storm of the season. Come Wednesday morning we had about five inches of snow out "the Mill". Today, I still have about three and my driveway is covered.

Wednesday I was able to get a small jog in - of about 10 minutes. This was primarily used to warm up for some interval rides. For which I did manage to do 5ea - 6' X 2' intervals at Tempo pace (Z3 for me).

Then off to Susan's for Burgers...

Thursday was intended to be a long day, but the shit hit the proverbial fan and I've lost track of where I'm at. Is this important? Whose to say?

Probably not and I may offer some more insightful thoughts later but when things don't go as planned - it can be disappointing - especially if you're looking forward to it.

More later.

Snow Day

This will be an exciting post...

4" to 5" of snow.... size matters. (just say that whenever someone gives a distance whether it makes sense or not)

Anyhow, last night did manage to lift, and do some "simulated" hill climbs on the trainer while it dropped the snow.

This morning I didn't run, as I forgot my tennis shoes. Plus I don't think it would be fun to run in 4" of snow. Interesting maybe, but I don't know about fun.

So far I have a couple rides planned for today, but we'll see how they go.

Till then...

2.06.2007

Recap Rest n Revise

Not once all weekend did someone ask me "why I wanted to ride in weather like
this". Those 100 orso peoples that made all or part of the ride may
not have known the answer, but a least no one asked the question. Wow
- to be normal for a bit...

I'm not normal.. or so this post says...

Thats from MBB and his ride he did for the Superbowl. I have no clue what the temp was in VA, but it was downright cold in Ona. But you can go here and check out Mike's annual Superbowl ride.

So if 100 people run and jump off a bridge, am I abnormal if I do not?

OH well... looks like MIke had a great time, and some cool pics to boot.

Sunday, for me was a short ride, then the Superbowl, where I had some friends over, Asshole, his betterhalf, Swanny, and myself and Susan. The Queen B was there also. Along with the yunguns.

The game was good, to pat myself on the back the Food was excellent. The little weenies were good too.

The game was good, I wouldn't call it great. The commercials, were not really noteworthy. But as always the Beer was excellent.

Monday was no school, Susan had some meetings for work and out of town. So I watched the yungons. Stayed home, and cleaned up the previous nights mess. Wanted to workout - lift and ride - but tired so I'm going to use this day for a rest day, and do the workouts tommorrow I think it will work out better.

So obviously it's now Tuesday, and we're on a two hour delay again.. So that is now past. Still plan to workout this eve.

Snow for tonight??

Anyone's guess.

"...Eeeassyyy....like Sunday Morning"

Good Morning Peeps

another post from the 4.5 from 60

I don't think I've posted anything from Friday on.. so here's a summary of what's went on over the weekend.

On Friday, I rode again on the trainer after work, and after working on a Fridge, which didn't have the part so I'll have to work on that again some today. Nevertheless, the trainer ride was intended to simulate some hill climbs. So basically I adjusted the grade setting and some of the gearing to climb nowhere slowly. To be honest, next time I do this workout, I need to adjust some of my settings as I dont' think I got what I was supposed to out of it.

After that ride, drank some beer and ate lamb chops. yummy

Saturday... Finally I go off road. Been so long I didn't know how. Rode around the Scout Camp. The ride felt good. Crisp Cool air - bout 30 degrees. Sunny in places, this made the ground soft as it tried to thaw out. Other places it was shady and cold packed. Nice ride.

I had intended to go about 2 hours, but my pushing and slodging through the trails only alotted me about an hour and 40 minutes. So once I got back to the home base, I finished the ride on the trainer.

Then to the walkin fridge - outside - for some pilsners and a soak in the hot tub.

Saturday eve is was to Famous Dave's in Barboursville for a nice dinner with my OH SO WONDERFUL GIRLFRIEND - Susan Irene Smith. (yes she insists I plug her on occasion) Pun Intended.

Nevertheless we met some of her friends there and well nice dinner. Ate ribs, came home and the dog ate the bones.

Sunday - needed about 20 minutes to meet the goal of the week. I was supposed to run, but didn't feel like it. Used another Spinervals tape and did about 30 minutes of it.

NOW for the rest of the day -

Do you have to ask?

SUPERBOWL

chili and sandwiches and beer

So the breakdown...

Did about 98 miles of riding, 14 off road, and
the majority on the trainer. Ran 4 miles at a very slow pace. Started the week
off at about 238lbs, and I'm closing right around 233lbs.

Next week the 229 barrier.
